Review: Canmake Marshmallow Finish Loose Powder in MO

I love Canmake. I love it’s price point, I love that it’s Japanese, I use some of it’s product on a daily basis. And when I saw that the Marshmallow powder line had a loose powder version, I had to grab it. So how does this product fare? Here are my thoughts:

The Good

Previously I had reviewed the Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder (link here), and I absolutely love that powder. I’ve probably made it through 3-4 pans of that stuff. This powder is very reminiscent of that, well, because it’s from the same Marshmallow line. You get a very similar pattern on the cover of the pan, you get the same colour powder (MO colour is the same for both the compact powder and the loose powder. Yay!), the same matte finish, the same medium coverage.

But I thought that the loose powder version performed better in the long-lasting department, which is a huge plus point in my opinion. I get through 4-5 hours before I need to blot, which is one hour more than the usual 3-4 hour! Whee!

But what really made me buy this product was the packaging. No no, not the “AH IT’S SO PRETTY I NEED TO BUY IT” kinda reasoning, but the “AH A COMPACT LOOSE POWDER ACTUALLY EXISTS” kind of reasoning. Up to this point, I have never seen a loose powder that did not have a screw-on cap! I mean, Chacott, Muji, Laura Mercier all have screw-on caps for their loose powders! And I always thought it was such a chore to have to screw on and screw off the cap. This loose powder has a hinge cover! Pop it open, pop it close! Genius!

While I love some good loose powders, I’ve always gone back to compact powders because they’re just more convenient, y’know what I mean? But this packaging is a total game-changer, man. It still takes me longer to powder my face than with a compact powder, but only slightly longer. And I can live with that.

Also, this powder comes in a travel-friendly size, so my loose powder is finally not gonna take up majority of the space in my make-up pouch.

At $20.90, it’s not too bad price-wise. There are cheaper powders, especially since Autralis and Rimmel have come upon Singaporean shores. But it’s not commanding Sephora-like prices either, and is still cheaper than Maybelline or Revlon. So I’m good with this price.

The Bad

Let’s be honest. There’s a really really little amount of product in this pan. With it’s compact size, you can’t fit in a lot of product. I’ve been using this powder for the past 2 weeks and I’m probably like half-way through it. So if that means you can work through one of these per month, that’s way too expensive to keep re-buying.

I’m actually perfectly fine with this though. My initial idea of buying this product was to eventually fill this container with my Chacott powder (link here) so I get the benefits of this convenient packaging and a great loose powder.

Another potential drawback would be for those people that apply their loose powders with a large powder brush. This packaging would not be doing you favours then. This packaging only works for those people who use puffs to apply your powder.

Conclusion

I’m very happy with this purchase, more so for the packaging than for the product, though the formulation is still the same great Marshmallow one as with the compact powder. For those who struggle with the same loose powder woes as me, give this one a try!
